With the Clinic Collection, Stutterheim Is Recharging Rainwear Through Art

Stutterheim claims to have been a pioneer in uniting fashion to rainwear, and the brand’s coats have been embraced by trendsetters including Kanye West and Selena Gomez, who just this past week was photographed in a burgundy Moseback model on the set of Woody Allen’s latest project. Still, that’s not enough for Stutterheim, who believes in looking good, feeling good, and doing good. “I’m not interested in just selling raincoats,” he says. “We have a bit of a responsibility. I want the brand to stand up and have a voice and opinion—even political opinions.” One of the first things the designer did when retook creative control of his namesake company was to reintroduce the Vladimir, a unisex, rainbow-striped coat (a percentage of its sale price is donated to support LGBTQ rights.) “I have issues with how Russia treats the gay community,” explains Stutterheim, “so I wanted to be a bit provocative and with a sense of humor show what a true Vladimir would look like in my opinion. Equal rights for all.”
