Plumen 001 by Hulger

London design brand Hulger has launched Plumen, a product it describes as "the world's first designer low-energy light bulb". 

The sculptural light bulbs use 80% less electricity than incandescent bulbs, and last eight times longer.

The Plumen 001 was designed in collaboration with Sam Wilkinson.

Plumen is the antithesis of low energy light bulbs as we know them. Rather than hide the unappealing traditional compact fluorescent light behind boring utility, Plumen 001 is a bulb you’ll want on show.

The Plumen bulb uses 80% less energy and lasts 8 times longer than incandescent bulbs, giving you the opportunity to purchase an ecological product with style. It works just like any low energy bulb but it has a lot more presence.

Plumen 003 lightbulb combines engineering and jewellery design

Plumen has launched its new lightbulb, Plumen 003, an LED lamp that combines engineering with product and jewellery design.

This is the latest low-energy bulb from Nicolas Roope’s design studio Hulger, and has been five years in the making. Its rounded, bell-shaped glass form was designed by Clare Norcross, and its golden, multi-faceted core was designed by jewellery designer Marie-Laure Giroux.

The patented design gives both a downward spotlight and an ambient light created by the golden core, which is made from anodised aluminium. The criss-cross texture on the fluted shapes disperses the light from the LED bulb inside, causing the light to bounce around and create a warm, diffused glow.

“Sustainable design often lacks sex appeal – LED bulbs being no exception,” says Nicolas. “Since our original idea, LED technology has come on in leaps and bounds. Previous gripes over light quality, colour temperature, reliability and brightness have all faded. To persuade all those who still haven’t moved to low energy lighting, we knew we needed something really special to tempt them in. We needed some seductive sustainability.”

A pesar de estas características ahorrativas, el objeto no prescindió diseño en su concepción por lo que su realizador, Samuel Wilkinson creó este particular foto para la compañía Hulger.

Plumen fue bautizado (y diseñado) partiendo de la forma de una pluma de ave.

El producto cuesta más de $ 500 y se encuentra disponible -sólo a pedido-en algunas casas de diseño de Córdoba como Casa Chula.
