Part 1 of Season 2 — the first four episodes — arrived Aug. 6. Wednesday Addams’ (Jenna Ortega) return to Nevermore introduced several new faces while the familiar ones of her family members stayed close. Wednesday’s parents were invited to stick around campus and stay in a guest cottage, which made Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) happy to be near both her children since Pugsley is now enrolled as a student.

Another year at Nevermore is over, but how does Wednesday's sophomore outing compare to Season 1? Well, it's a more difficult question to answer than you might think. On paper, Wednesday Season 2 is technically split into two parts, two pieces of one whole, but in practice, the show ends up feeling disjointed. Part 1 feels like an unfinished opening arc, while Part 2 feels rushed as it speeds toward its finale. It's never been more obvious that Netflix's method of breaking up its seasons into two parts just doesn't work like it should. Whether it's a bid to hold onto the "binge format" that the streamer became famous for or a move in an attempt to balm over some of the cracks in the veneer of a show, it's clear in Season 2 of Wednesday that this format is working to the detriment of the narrative.

With the original stage production split into two acts, the movie version will also be presented in two parts, with “Defying Gravity” serving as the end to Part 1.

Director Jon M. Chu revealed his decision to divide Wicked into two films in a social media statement in April 2022. He explained that it was the best way to fully explore the storyline, character arcs, and musical numbers without condensing them into a single movie.
