Even given the unlikely history of seminal Perth outfit the Kryptonics, vocalist/guitarist Ian Underwood never would have dreamt that the band would perform at the Perth Concert Hall, as they will be doing for State of the Art: A Celebration of WA Music.
"Never in a million years," the Kryptonics mainstay says from Sydney. "It's been a total and wonderful surprise. I saw Madness at the Concert Hall in 1981 when I was still in school. People got beaten up in front of me and the venue was half trashed. Hopefully, our cadre of balding 40-something fans won't do the same.
"It'll be nice to tread the same boards as REM, who I saw there later on in the 80s. I'm also chuffed to be playing with the Hoodoo Gurus. Around the time of their Stoneage Romeos album they were my favourite band in the world. I still play Les Paul Juniors because it's the guitar Dave Faulkner played during that era."
