Denim Tears creative director Tremaine Emory is taking his visionary approach to the latest Dr. Martens collaboration. In the effort to reclaim the celebrate the history of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, Tremaine continues to push forward to agenda by producing racially conscious creations that will dissect the intersectionality of history and fashion. Through his designs, Tremaine wants to educate the world on the African Diaspora, demanding attention to the community’s history.
This marks the first collaboration between Dr. Martens and Denim Tears. The collection of footwear represents the infusion of Caribbean culture as the design centers around the Union Jack subverted with the colors of the Jamaican flag, taking inspiration from Chris Ofili’s 2003 “Union Black” flag. The design can be seen emblazoned across the vamp of the classic 8-eye 1460 boot and Penton loafer shoe. The pieces are constructed from smooth, resilient leather synonymous with Dr. Martens.
The vision comes from understanding the cultural revolution defied by the HMT Windrush where over 1000 passengers, mainly Caribbean, were docked in London.
