Home sweet home: The Georgian-style house in Barnes, south west London, was built in the 1940s and features seven bedrooms. A new second-floor mansard roof accentuates the Georgian feel of the property and houses the ensuite master bedroom
Oasis: Caroline Gardner fell in love with the garden when she saw the house 20 years ago. The family had the pool installed at the end of the grounds by Falcon Pools (falconpools.co.uk) and it is surrounded by York-stone slabs and iroko decking frame. It is lined with pale-green mosaic tiles (similar tiles sold at reedharris.co.uk).
Relaxation: Mrs Gardner (pictured with the family dog) has made an oriental-style garden that features feathery tall grasses, including Molinia caerulea 'Karl Foerster' and Anemanthele lessoniana. Late-flowering perennials, such as Verbena bonariensis and Verbascum 'Helen Johnson' also grow. The naturalist planting, designed by Karena Batstone (karenabatstone.com), is broken up with an iroko decking walkway, pebble squares and grass panels
