Bench, the VC-backed accounting startup that left thousands of customers locked out of their accounts after it suddenly shut down last week, will be acquired by Employer.com for an undisclosed price in a last-minute deal, TechCrunch has exclusively learned.
The San Francisco-based HR tech company Employer.com focuses on payroll and onboarding, in contrast to Bench, which specializes in accounting and tax. Employer.com’s chief marketing officer Matt Charney told TechCrunch the company will revive Bench’s platform and provide instructions for customers to log in and obtain their data.
Customers will be given the choice to port their data or keep their service under new ownership, Charney told TechCrunch. Bench’s previous recommendation to file for a six-month extension with the Internal Revenue Service to look for a new bookkeeper is no longer needed if customers decide to stay on, Employer.com confirmed.
Bench’s website, which is still offline at the time of writing, previously touted more than 35,000 “American small business owners” on its platform, according to an archived copy. (Post-publication, Employer.com told TechCrunch that Bench has approximately 12,000 customers.) Deceptive BenchCaelanThis bench is wide enough for many people, however its weight capacity is for a full grown man and a small baby (243lbs total). I found this out because after sitting on it and being the second adult on it, its structural integrity disintegrated If you buy this, buy it for 2-4 people but make sure the people only way 60-120 lbs otherwise you’ll be out $100.
Attractive Outdoor SeatingAndreaWe needed additional seating for our small backyard. This outdoor bench is attractive and sturdy. It's big enough for 3-4 small adults. It was easy to assemble. I'm happy with this item and I would purchase it again.
Solid and easy to assembleBrenda MThis bench looks good, is easy to put together (5-10 min.), is comfortable, and is stable enough for 2 adults.
Nice lookingJoanneI love the way this bench tucks in under-the-table nicely. When we are not using it.
BenchYogeshProduct is very nice but we could not fix the bolt at the bottom of the seat ! Is it faulty ? We don’t want to give it back but we like to have some support Thanks!…
THE BENCH PRESS is one of the all-time great strength training exercises. For most guys, bench pressing means one thing: getting underneath a barbell loaded with as many plates as possible and eking out as many reps as they can. That can be one way to build a big, strong chest—but it's not the only way, and it's certainly not the safest, most effective way for everyone. If you want to make the most of your workout, you'll have a diverse approach to the bench press.
Start by swapping the heavy barbells for dumbbells. This might sound like gym heresy—but there are important questions you need to answer before you shut down this strategy. Why are you including the bench press in your routine? Is a barbell bench press PR your ultimate goal? Do you have aspirations to enter a powerlifting competition? Or are you mostly working out with the aim to build massive muscles? Maybe even just healthy movement is your goal.
If your response to the first two questions is no (or even that you're not sure), the barbell isn't an absolute must for your bench press plan. You can train your chest muscles with the bench press…
