Today, Athletic Propulsion Labs has officially launched the Concept 2, a follow-up to their controversial 2010 flagship. The Concept 1 famously made headlines when the NBA banned the model from being worn by its players, citing an "unfair competitive advantage" due to APL's vertical-increasing technology. What could have been a setback turned into a strong marketing point for the brand; banishment from the world's top professional basketball league gave APL's promise of extra hops instant credibility. The Concept 2 picks up where the Concept 1 left off.
Tipping the scales at just 15 ounces, the Concept 2 features a two-piece synthetic carbon fiber upper that molds to the foot using minimal seams and stitching for added comfort and enhanced performance. Other features include a speed lacing system, performance engineered collar, strategically placed air flow vents and a new herringbone outsole with a high-grip tread pattern.
Also making its return is APL's trademark vertical-increasing Load 'N Launch technology, the primary cause of the NBA ban. Load 'N Launch is now complemented by a unique four-layer insole that is engineered to work a high-performance sock liner and internal shank plate.

Following the success of their NBA-banned flagship Concept 1, the people over at Athletic Propulsion Labs are officially ready to introduce the highly-anticipated follow-up. Earlier today, the brand teased fans with a sneak preview of the Concept 2, giving us a clear look at the new outsole design. The photo showcases APL's trademark Load 'N Launch system in bright green, visible through a herringbone-heavy yellow rubber outsole. We also see a green shank plate leading up to what may be a black-based style.
The wait for the Concept 2 won't be much longer. You can ring in the new year by picking up a pair when they release next Tuesday, January 3, 2012. More details from APL are forthcoming, so stick with Sole Collector for updates.

Luxury performance footwear brand Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL) has added a new silhouette in the running category that features the company's latest revolutionary technology.
APL's Euphoria is highlighted by a Naked Net upper, an ultra-breathable, lightweight material that provides exceptional support while feeling as if it’s barely there.
Launching in five colorways for men and women, the Euphoria is positioned by the brand to "Run Naked." Beneath the Naked Net upper is APL's Heavenly Ride midsole that gives runners a "luxuriously" soft and responsive foundation that helps you forget how hard the ground actually feels.
The soft Lycra collar and zonal heel cushions - combined with the midsole - cradles the foot in all-day comfort. A strategically placed midfoot stability strap keeps the foot secure as you move, while the three-piece rubber outsole - with a multi-directional traction pattern - provides confidence on any surface.
